Ft. Desoto Campout Dinner -- April 28, 2007
|
|
![]() Another fantistic Campout Saturday night Dinner was enjoyed by all. Fifty seven people managed to make the group picture with about another 10 missing. There was no threat of rain the whole weekend and it was pleasantly cool at night. It was a little windy but that kept the bugs away. Campsite #167 again proved to work out wonderfully. Master chef, Al Sychowski had the honor of cooking again and did great as usual. We had more delicious food to eat than was legal. Our only hitch for the weekend/evening was the Park refused to allow any dogs into our camping area. This was contrary to all the previous years and this was blamed on an over zellous "Camp Host". Several people were concerned the Park Rangers would also put a damper on our evening activities but rumors have it someone convienced the rangers to allow us to have our joyous event as we have in years past. |

| Requested Bobbe to say a few words about the CAMPING part of the weekend. As follows: What a pleasure to return year after year to such a lovely and enjoyable place. Of course, over the years, 9 we think, situations and people have changed, but the ‘group’ of Snowsharks makes each trip a lot of fun. After moving out of Florida last year, to Oklahoma, we were determined to return to this scheduled camp trip, no matter what. We even made our reservations seven months to the day!!! I recommend everyone do this as you are guaranteed your ‘regular’ yearly place, on the water or not. This year the grounds have changed a bit, a few fewer trees, a little more gravel, but friends abound. Of course we had the ‘die hards’, like Phyllis & Rick, Lou & Saray, Norm & Fay, Terry & Marsha & family, and all the Ft. Desoto critters. The ‘One Foot’ seagull, the Grey Heron, and of course all the raccoons, although I think they are smaller than usual, maybe a new generation, just what this place needs. Our picnic was a success as usual, with just about any type of salad and dessert to enjoy! Thanks Al for pitching in and cooking all those hamburgers to perfection. Whoever made all those brownies, whoo hooo!!! Laughter and good friends brought the evening to a grand conclusion by our ‘science’ lesson and sighting of the Space Station flying across the western sky at EXACTLY 9:15 as scheduled. I’m sure all our other campers and friends enjoyed the weekend, and we will be sure to return next year. I’m hoping the little ‘misunderstanding’ with the Host didn’t change anyone’s minds, we are Snowsharks after all and we can handle the best of them with laughter, and a few drinks. See you next year, or on the slopes, Henry & Bobbe McGrew Past Board Members |

![]() Looks like the boat might be a little overloaded with all four people. |
![]() Asked Lou B why he didn't take more camping pictures and now I know why. Relaxing was the theme. |
![]() Well..... Lou did take pictures |
![]() of his grandchildren. |
![]() I'm standing right here until someone brings me a hotdog. |
![]() Naturally it was almost dead calm on Monday. |
