Clearwater/ St. Pete Ski and Sports Club Frequently Asked Questions- FAQ’s
Q: Do I need to know how to ski or snowboard to attend one of the club’s ski trips? A: No. People of varying abilities join us on our ski trips. If you are new to skiing or snowboarding it is recommended you take a lesson from a qualified instructor. It is not recommended you let a “friend” teach you how to ski. This rarely works out the way you would hope. Q: I’m traveling alone, do I have to find a roommate? A: Yes, no, maybe. Actually it’s up to you. Most trips advertise at a minimum, a single room with double occupancy. If you want to stay in a room by yourself just ask the trip leader if that would be possible and what the cost would be. Typically this is fairly easy to set up. If you do want to share with a roommate, the club will do it’s best to find you one, but we can not guarantee this. Q: The trip I was interested in is full, what should I do? A: You have a couple options. Contact the trip leader to see if the trip can be expanded. If not, you can ask to be placed on a wait list in case of any cancellations. Cancellations are rare but they do happen on occasion. Your best bet is to consider one of the other trips our club sponsors. Q: Does the ski club accept snowboarders? A: We do not discriminate against those crazy boarders! A small number of ski areas however do not allow snow boarders. If you board, please be sure to check with the leader of the trip you may be interested in joining. Q: How can I pay for my trip? A: At this time we can accept only checks, money orders, cash and credit cards. Q: What type of accommodations do you use? A: Each trip is different but we generally try to stay at better quality accommodations. Most are condo type rooms but Hotel rooms are used when appropriate. We can’t always get ski/in ski out but we generally try to stay as close to the ski area as possible. Trip leaders should be contacted for specific information about lodging options for their trip. Q: Do I need to purchase any equipment to go skiing? A: No. Most trips are set up to rent ski equipment such as ski’s, boots and poles at the ski area at a discounted group rate. You are however allowed to purchase and bring your own if you choose. Many members purchase and bring their own boots because of the comfort and rent their skis on site. Other items such as jackets, boots and gloves are typically purchased by the traveler ahead of time. Q: Can I accrue my own frequent flyer miles? A: Yes. We use a number of different air carriers. If you are a member of a frequent flyer program for the airline we are using on your trip, be sure to check in at the airport gate to have the miles assigned to your account. Q: Can I supply my own air transportation and receive a credit on my trip price? A: Probably. Check with the trip leader first, but this is usually not a problem. In the past we have had some members fly on the same flight but they used their frequent flyer miles to purchase the ticket. Others have flown in from other airports in other states to join us on our trips. It is typically not a problem to credit you for the air portion of the trip. Again, check with the trip leader before purchasing your own air and going this route Q: Does the club do anything other than ski? A: Yes! Ski season is only 3-4 months long so we try and have fun activities to fill the rest of the year. Our club is a member driven organization. We can do almost anything our membership requests. We call these “outside activities”. Besides our monthly socials, we have participated in canoe trips, dances, camp outs, charity diners, day trips and roller blading. Do you have an idea for an outside activity? We can always use someone to lead us in an activity. |
